Hundreds of police officers and specialized units are being dispatched nationwide in anticipation of large-scale pro-Palestinian demonstrations scheduled to take place in major Australian cities today.
Organizations affiliated with the international coalition “A15 Action” are urging their followers to obstruct vital city locations, including ports, train stations, and sections of downtown business districts, with the aim of disrupting economic activities.
Additionally, they intend to stage spontaneous protests at select sites as part of a widespread global initiative to halt aggression in Gaza.
The organizers of these protests assert that exerting global pressure on Western economies is essential to resolving the Gaza conflict, which commenced on October 7 of the preceding year.
“Join us in cities around the world to obstruct the vital arteries of capitalism and disrupt the mechanisms of production,” states the A15 website.
The proposal outlines plans to identify and block major economic chokepoints in each city, focusing on production and circulation hubs to maximize economic impact. Examples cited include recent port closures in Oakland, California, and Melbourne, Australia.
A list of participating cities globally includes Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, “Adelaine” (spelling error), Hobart, Darwin, and Canberra, among others like Geelong, Alice Springs, and Castlemaine.
